I am thrilled that you found us! My name is Donna Feyen and I am the founder of More Than A Review (MTAR).
I wanted to take a moment to first share why I created More Than A Review and then to give new visitors a chance to get to know me a little bit better.
Why More Than A Review?
In case you haven’t figured this out, I’m an avid reader! I love many genres but seem mostly drawn to mysteries, romance and fiction books about the military. The problem was, I frequently found books that fell short of my expectations in several ways. For one, the books simply didn’t measure up to the more “traditional” reviews I read about them. More importantly, I often found myself unexpectedly running across offensive content in a book and it greatly diminished my experience.
Instead of complaining or, worse, reading less, I decided to do something about it. That’s where the idea for MTAR was born.
After discussing my ideas with friends and family, I began to develop the science behind creating a website that would provide in-depth book reviews while also including a detailed “grading” system to provide readers upfront knowledge about the content of books they choose to read.
That was in 2012. Since then, I’m honored that so many people have chosen to join the MTAR community. People like you helped make this more than a website that is “more than a review.” It’s a community that rallies around a shared passion for reading books that are high quality, with clean content.
I continue to be blessed by other readers who share in my vision to review books by content. It is refreshing to know I was not on an island by myself. I believe books and their content are very impactful to the reader. I have had nightmares as a result of graphic scenes and have been moved to pray for a fictional little boy with cancer because of what I’ve read in a book (please tell me I am not the only one that gets that drawn into a book).
You’ll find that we have thousands of reviews from a variety of readers but many of the reviews are from me. I wanted to share a bit about myself in words and pictures.
My husband, Ray, and I live in Northwest Arkansas with our three beautiful black Labrador retrievers. I’ve worked at the same company for more than 30 years and have a wide variety of interests.
Obviously, I’m an avid reader and enjoy Beth Moore Bible studies. I’m also a digital scrapbooker and love using words and pictures to tell a story.
That’s why I’ve decided to share more about who I am through pictures.

I started running after my mother was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. This picture is me (left in the black) as I am coming into the finish line of my fifth half marathon. I’m with Pauline, who convinced me to run my first half marathon. Thanks to Podium Images for this photo from the 2016 Bentonville Half Marathon finish line. It represents so much…accomplishment, lifelong friendship and support, family, a growing running community, and commitment.
I Love Music
I am a self-proclaimed Third Day stalker. I have been to numerous concerts and even a back stage party thanks to my musician brother in law, Steve. These guys have a gift and a heart for touching people with their music. This picture is me with the band, my two sisters, and niece.
I am an Elvis fan and love to celebrate his birthday and Elvis Week. Pictured here is fellow Elvis fan and More Than a Review reviewer, Sonie and I celebrating Elvis Week at a baseball game.
My favorite place to vacation and read. My husband and I love a quiet beach. We go to a beach annually and I love it! My dream is to retire with a house on the water.
Book Shows Are My Favorite
I attended the International Christian Retail Show and it was like Disney World for a reader. Several authors were signing books every hour. I was absolutely star struck when I met Dani Pettrey. I was honored and thrilled this year when I was invited back as a media representative.
Support Our Troops
Ray and I have several members of our family and friends who have served in the military. We are so thankful for the men and women who make the sacrifice to serve. Recently, our daughter Emily joined the National Guard. This is Emily leading her entire Battalion in The Soldier’s Creed. She graduated at the top of her class as a Distinguished Honor Graduate at both Basic Training and AIT. We are very proud parents.
Thanks so much for taking the time to visit More Than A Review. I hope you enjoy our community!
